PEACHLAND, N.C. — Dorothy Marguerite Huntley, 96, died Oct. 15, 2016. Dot was born July 29, 1920, on her parents' farm in the township of White Store in Anson County, where she lived until Sept. of 2006, when she moved to assisted living in Monroe, N.C. She was the fourth of five children born to the late L Huntley Sr. and the late Margaret Eulalia Faulkner Huntley. Dot attended school in Peachland, graduating from Peachland High School in 1937. During her high school years, she was a member of the girls' basketball team. "Miss Dot," as she was known by many in the White Store community, loved the land where she was born and raised and lived most of her life. Dot spent countless hours walking that land enjoying its wildlife and plants. Dot was also interested in the genealogy of her family and assisted in organizing the reunions that were held at White Store in the 1960's for the descendants of Dominick Barrett. Dot is survived by her sister, Mattie Lou Huntley Horne of Peachland, and her nieces, Carol Huntley Ephraim of North Wilkesboro, N.C., Judith Huntley "Judy" Tarleton and husband Larry W. Tarleton of Charleston, S.C., Dorothy Vinson "Dottie" Ross and husband Owen B. Ross of Charlotte, and Debora Vinson "Debbie" Winchester and husband Michael L. "Wink" Winchester of Monroe. Also surviving are her great-nephews L Huntley, Joe Huntley, and Huntley Tarleton and her great-niece Laurie Tarleton and their families. In addition to her parents, L and Eula, Dot was preceded in death by her brothers, L Huntley Jr. and John William "Bub" Huntley, her sister, Mary Anna Huntley Vinson Boger, and her nephew, Roman Bobby Huntley. A graveside service will be held for Dot on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at 2:30 p.m.. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.mcewenmonroechapel.com . Paid obituary
