In memory of
William L. Howard
HOWARD, William L., 88, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016. Born in Louisville, he received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Louisville, and was a retired licensed surveyor and civil engineering draftsman from James-Winstead & Associates, Inc. Papa loved Jesus and children. For many years he worked with AWANA (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) Club to help church and parents develop spiritually strong children and youth to follow Jesus Christ. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, and would never miss an opportunity to show people a picture of his "Pride and Joy", giving patients and others encouragement by giving them something to laugh at. He was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. Whether it was to give rides to church or help bag groceries, he was available. He volunteered at Cardiovascular Associates, escorting patients to and from various areas of the building. As a result of his spirit of helpfulness, after retirement he voluntarily began bagging groceries as he saw the need. Kroger recognized his efforts, suggested he apply and hired him. He was the most precious Papa anyone could have, and his parting has left a deep void in the lives of many. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joyce Lee Berry; his brother, Clarence Elmer Howard, Jr.; and his sister, Bettye Anne Daffern. He is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa Leveron Howard. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at First Alliance Church, 3726 Bardstown Rd. with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Alliance Church or Smile Train.
