In memory of
John "Buddy" Nayduch, 86, of Mayfield, died Sunday in Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of Barbara (Zelaska) Nayduch. They were married 63 years. John was born in Mayfield, on Dec. 9, 1929, son of the late John and Mary (Guzey) Nayduch. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Jermyn. He served in the Army and the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a former employee of Keystone Pavement, Lake Ariel, Waco Construction, Waymart, and Lakeland High School, where he was know by the students as "John the Lav Guy." He was a 25-year member of the American Legion Post 610, Mayfield. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and cutting grass. He also enjoyed trips to the casino. Surviving are a daughter, Maria Bortree and her boyfriend, William Keller, of Waymart; and five sons, Basil and his wife, Mary Jo, of Middletown; Stephen and his girlfriend, Mary Theresa Villano, of Thompson; Thomas and his wife, Audrey, of Loveland, Colo.; John, of Winter Spring, N.C.; Michael and his wife, Shawna of Alaska; grandchildren, Jason Nayduch and his fiancée, Traci; Joshua Nayduch and his wife, Anna; Charissa Lynn and her husband, Jerry; Gary Burton, John Nayduch Jr. and his wife, Natasha; great-grandchildren, Parker Burton, Tucker Lynn and Nora Nayduch; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Olga Jaye and Genevieve Walton; and a brother, Basil. Friends may call Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 305 Walnut St., Jermyn. Requiem services will follow with the Very Rev. John Kowalczyk and Dennis Swencki officiating. Entombment will be in St. Tikon's Cemetery, South Canaan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
