William "Dixie" Richardson
SHAMOKIN-- William "Dixie" Richardson, 94, of 20 N. Eighth St., Shamokin, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at his home where he resided for the past 71 years. He was born in Shamokin Sept. 23, 1922, a son of the late William and Mary (Kernmier) Richardson. Dixie was a graduate of Shamokin High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was married to the late Mary Jane (Fallon) Richardson for 55 years. A barber by trade, he worked at Dixie's Barber Shop in Shamokin for 60 years. He retired Aug. 28, 2004. Mr. Richardson was a parishioner of Mother Cabrini Church where he served as an altar server; and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose, Elks and played in multiple bowling leagues. Dixie is survived by his loving family, including a son, Monsignor William M. Richardson, of Lewisburg; three daughters, Linda A. Hallen and her husband, Charles, of Lansdale, Mary Carol F. Jordan, of Shamokin, and Kathy A. Patrick and her husband, Jack, of Sinking Spring; two grandsons, Christopher L. Patrick, of Brooklyn, New York, Matthew D. Patrick, of Ephrata; and a granddaughter, Maureen E. Desai, and her husband, Vinay, of Sinking Spring. RICHARDSON — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Wednesday at Mother Cabrini Church, 200 N. Shamokin St. at Webster St., Shamokin, with his son, Monsignor William M. Richardson, as celebrant. Family and friends attending the Mass are asked to meet at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, 17872. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, Director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple St., Coal Township.
