Howard D. Phillips
Howard Donly "Deacon" Phillips II, 85, of Scituate, formerly of Norwell, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 15, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Jessie T. (Powers) Phillips. Bo rn in Scituate, he attended Norwell Public Schools and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. There he attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and earned a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Combat Medical Badge. He had worked at the Satuit Bowlaway in Scituate for many years and most recently had worked for Service Master. Deacon enjoyed trips to Twin River Casino and watching his beloved Yankees. He was the devoted father of Marie (Phillips) Thompson and her husband Ken of Hanover, and H. Catherine (Driscoll) Lauria and her husband Jeff of Marshfield. He was predeceased by his son, Howard D. "Howie" Phillips III. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael Bergman, Robert Hennebury, Dominique Lauria, Carissa Lauria, and his great-grandchildren, Reese Bergman and Sara Pearl Hennebury. He was the loving brother of the late Franklin Phillips. He was the former husband of Jane Smith of Cohasset. Funeral arrangements will take place privately.
