Anna T. 'Annie' (Novick) Mistretta, 93, died Fri. Oct. 14th, 2016 at Sud- bury Pines Extended Care in Sudbury. Mrs. Mistretta was the loving wife of the late Carlo J. Mistretta, to whom she was married for 68 years at the time of his passing Oct. 12, 2014. She is survived by their sons, David Mistretta and his wife Rita of Salem, NH, and John Mistretta of Maynard; a granddaughter Tina Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Mark Hartford, and her siblings, Anthony and Eva Novick, Sophie Cormier, John Novick, Stella Raymond, Marion Laughlin, Frank Novick and Nancy Curtis. Born at home in Maynard, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Eva Novick. A lifelong resident of Maynard, she graduated from the Maynard schools and worked for a time at Nichols Shoe in Hudson prior to her marriage. She and her husband, Carlo, raised their two sons in Maynard, and she centered her life around her family. In early years Mrs. Mistretta was a Boy Scout den mother and enjoyed working behind the scenes for fundraisers to benefit her sons activities including Little League and the high school band and sports. An excellent cook, she loved being outdoors and appreciated nature, especially sunsets, beaches and horses. Active throughout her life, her family affectionately called her 'The Great Defender' as she was always the one to keep the peace and help those who needed it. This extended into her later years, and at Sudbury Pines she was known for her energy and compassion for other residents. Anna's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Sudbury Pines Nursing Home staff for the excellent and dedicated care they extended to both Anna and her family throughout her residence.
