Betty (Harrington) Peabbles
Betty Peabbles SACO - Betty Peabbles entered into heaven surrounded by her family on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. Betty was born in Rockland to the late Leroy and Frances (Roy) Harrington. She graduated from South Portland High School, and then shared 60 years of marriage with the late Lawrence L. Peabbles. Betty was known for her inner and outer beauty, her radiant smile, and her ability to encourage others. She was an enthusiastic Christian with an undying faith in God; her greatest love was God and family. She strived to live her life in a way which would be pleasing to God by speaking boldly of her faith, and was not ashamed of her love for God. Betty's consistent mission in life was to lead people to the Lord, and was well-known for her ability to comfort and encourage others through prayer. She was a strong spiritual leader and her ministry included holding Bible studies at the fire station in Scarborough, and teaching Sunday school; she was asked to speak on various occasions. Her greatest desire was to ensure that her family knew the Lord, and in her very last breath she continued to witness to them. Betty had a powerful testimony that changed many lives and will continue to influence many more lives. She was loyal and dedicated to her family and they were her greatest pride and joy, placing great value on spending time together and building traditions. Betty had a unique sense of fashion and dressed to dazzle. She worked as private duty C.N.A. Her specialty was working with the elderly and she enjoyed caring for them and making a difference in their lives. She loved playing the Hawaiian guitar for many years in church, and enjoyed cooking, and reading Christian books, especially the Bible. She had a heart for animals, and loved dancing, especially the jitterbug, with her husband. She leaves behind a legacy of serving the Lord and changing people's lives. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Peabbles Sr.; a son, Lawrence Peabbles Jr.; a daughter, Laurine Peabbles; a grandson, Elijah James Peabbles; three sisters, Glenice Mann, Gladys O'Neil, and Barbara Angelopoulos; and a brother, Leroy Harrington.
