WILLIAM HICKS
Feb. 23, 1924 - Oct. 14, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY William Dorn Hicks, son of William Otis and Leta Maud (Hoyt) Hicks, was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Avery, Lincoln County, OK. At his mother's death, he was taken into the home of his aunt and uncle, Guy and Edith (Hicks) Givens, and their daughter, Mary Lou, of Kendrick, Lincoln County, OK, where he was raised as a son and brother. Following graduation from Kendrick High School in 1941, he entered the U.S. Army. He was in the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, Third Armored Division, serving in four campaigns in the Europe. In March 1945, he was wounded. He was awarded six military decorations and citations, including the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, he completed a B.S. degree in business administration from Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma). In April 1950, he and Virginia Lee Roberts were married. He worked for the Social Security Administration for 34 years before retiring in the early 1980s. He and Virginia moved to Oklahoma City in the 1990s, and Virginia died in Jan. 2015. His son, William S. Hicks, lives in Fredericksburg, TX; daughter, Leta Hicks, lives in Davie, FL; son, Phillip, and daughter-in-law, Teri Hicks, live in Kremlin, OK; and two grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Hicks, live in Midland, TX. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Chapel.
