Carol Theresa (Stevens) Tallentire
Carol Theresa (Stevens) Tallentire, 80, of Galion, died Monday, October 17, 2016, at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after a long illness. Carol was born in Galion on October 30, 1935, to the late Russell and Eileen (Jack) Stevens. She married Jerry W. Tallentire on March 6, 1954, and he survives her, along with her dog, Scruffy. Carol worked as a clerk at Poland True Value Hardware and Galion Hardware. She had also worked at Geyer's Market, was a cook at the former South School, and purchased Casey's Gifts from her Aunt Fairy in the 80's. Carol was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Galion. Carol attended Galion City Schools and Mansfield Senior High. She was an active member of the community. At South School, she was PTA President, and President of Iberia PTO, and was the first secretary of OAPSE. Carol was the first woman to receive the Galion Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. She was a member and Past President of the Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Past President of Business and Professional Women and was awarded the BPW Woman of the Year Award in October 1991. She was secretary of the American Legion, Past President of the Galion Emblem Club #359, President of the Galion Friendly Homemakers, a long-time member and secretary of Uptown Associates, and former President of Galion Golden Age Club. Carol worked as a poll worker and presiding judge for the Crawford County Board of Elections. She served as Chairman of the United Way Board for two consecutive terms. Carol served on the committee to renovate Heise Park Pool and served on the City of Galion forum committee as a facilitator. In the summer you could find Carol helping out at the Pickle Run. Carol loved to dance, skate, play games and golf. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She also loved to work in her flower beds and do crafts. But the thing she loved best was her family. Carol enjoyed getting the family together for holidays, cookouts and loved decorating her entire house for Christmas. Her grandchildren often told her "Grandma, I love your house at Christmas, it's always so festive!" That made all the work worth it! She loved family get-togethers with all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. According to Carol "We had great water fights". She loved people. Never one to complain, Carol could always be found happy with a smile on her face. She loved helping her neighbors and friends and anyone who had a need! In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Danita and Terry Holbrook, Galion, Timothy and Susan Tallentire, Newark, Pamela and Brian Little and Jerry S. Tallentire, all of Galion; her sister, Kathleen Parish, Newman, GA; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stevens Stadfeld of FL.; her eighteen grandchildren; and her thirty-one great-grandchildren; Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Stevens. Friends may call Friday, October 21, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Richard McCartney officiating.
