SABIN Joan K. Joan K. Sabin, 79, of Grand Rapids, Ohio passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Joan was born to the late John and Etta (LeMaster) Hurst in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She married Jack Sabin on November 11, 1953, and he preceded her in death on October 8, 2014. Joan was a tenth generation American, her fourth generation great-grandfather, Captain John Hurst, fought at Yorktown in the Revolutionary War. Joan's great-grandfather, William Hurst died fighting for freedom during the Civil War. Joan was a manager for the laundromat at Manhattan Plaza in Toledo for 15 years and was a cook for the Grand Rapids Care Center. Joan was a friendly, outgoing person who loved to sew, crochet, read books and help peel apples for the Grand Rapids Applebutter Festival. Joan served her country as a military wife and mother and traveled all over the world with her husband and children while Jack was stationed in the Air Force. Joan greatest joy in her life was doting on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family for all holidays and even those she made-up. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Etta; husband, Jack; son, Michael; brother, John Hurst; and sisters, Mary Clemens and Fannie Thompson. Joan is survived by her daughter, Debra (Craig) Peabody of Toledo, Ohio; sons, Martin (Jeanie) Sabin of Neapolis, Ohio, John Sabin of Grand Rapids, Ohio; grandchildren, Keith, Elizabeth, Holly, Justin, Alicia, Chad, Nicholas, Alison, and Patrick; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Fett of Ankeny, Iowa and Dorothy (Anthony) Roy of Queen Creek, Arizona. Visitation for Joan will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Wright-Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second St., Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522. Funeral Services for Joan will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wright-Hanneman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions in Joan's honor may be given to the American Cancer Society or Green Option for Autism of Lucas County (G.O.A.L).
