John J. Colburn 1935 - 2016 Avid Yankee Fan WHITESBORO - John J. Colburn, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, October 17, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. John was born on August 30, 1935, in Mineville, NY, the son of the late Harold and Sophie (Okusky) Colburn. He graduated from Mineville High School in 1953 and in December of that year joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country for four years. On September 12, 1959, John married Joan L. Gregory in Witherbee, NY. They shared a blessed union of 47 years, with Joan passing on September 5, 2006. John was employed with General Electric for 30 years, holding the position of supervisor. He was a member of the William E. Burke Council #189 Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Color Corps and the GE Century Club. John coached several athletic sports in Whitestown and was also a member of the Dunham Manor Association. John is survived by his five children, Patti (Mike) Reile, John (Maria) Colburn, Paul (Heidi) Colburn, Mary (Bill) Salisbury and Peter (Lynn) Colburn and their families, Eric and Jacob (Meg) Reile, Danielle and Jason Colburn, Megan (Dan) Gymbrych, Ryan Colburn, Colin and Nathan Salisbury, Peter Colburn and Shelby West. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jean Clark, Sue (Dick) Houck and Debi (Steve) Gibbs; brother-in-law, Ed (Dee) Gregory; many nieces and nephews; and his friend, Mary Jane Schrader. John was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Orlo and Bernice Gregory, Port Henry, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will commence at 6:30 p.m. immediately following visitation, with the Rev. Joseph Salerno officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Moriah, NY.
