In memory of
Donald Rabb Stinson
A Memorial Service for Donald Rabb Stinson, age 83, will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 20, at Parkview Baptist Church, 1001 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA.. Visitation will be at 10 AM before the service. A graveside service will follow at 3 PM in Haynesville at Old Town Cemetery, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be the Reverend Lanny Turner, and the Reverend Charles Dupuy. Don was born on January 24, 1933 in Shreveport, but passed away at Homer Memorial Hospital on October 16. Preceding him in death were his parents, Norwood Gilmer Stinson, and Elizabeth Rabb Stinson, and sister, Susan Circello. Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Jo Sale Stinson, son, Michael Sale Stinson, grandchildren, Michael Sale Stinson, Jr., and Isabelle Elise Stinson, and one cousin, Charles Pearson, of Midland, TX. Don was a resident of Monroe for 55 years, but during the last year of his life, he was a resident of Haynesville, his wife's hometown. He graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, and then went on to LSU, where he played halfback for the LSU Tigers. He obtained a petroleum engineering degree and then went to work as a field engineer for Marathon Oil Company. During that time, he became fascinated with the stock market and the world of finance, which led to a 40 year career with Merrill Lynch. Don was a longtime faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church, and was a devoted member of Larry Johnson's Sunday School Class. He appreciated the concern and caring they gave him. He was involved in the community, and was a member of Bayou DeSiard Country Club, the Lotus Club, and was instrumental in the forming of River Oaks School. He was an avid golfer, and thoroughly enjoyed his many rounds of golf with all of his golfing buddies, while trying to include LSU football games in his golfing excursions to other courses with his friends. He was a long time season ticket holder, but the last few years of his life were limited to "his chair and TV". Don was a kind, caring man, and his family and friends were very special to him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and cherished memories of him will always be remembered. The family would like to extend appreciation to Dr. Samuel Abshire, who cared for him during the last year of his life. His wonderful caregiver, Patrick Hampton, who stayed and cared for him 'round the clock, along with Linda Jackson, Patrick's Mother. The family suggests that memorials be made to The Lousiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 DeSiard St., Monroe, LA 71203, or Parkview Baptist Church, or the donor's favorite Charity.
