In memory of
Erlo Ivy Neal, 79, of Denham Springs, Louisiana passed away in the arms of his savior surrounded by family on Thursday October 13, 2016 at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served in, and was a proud veteran of the Louisiana National Guard. He was a fighter in many ways and was a soldier on the front lines battling Leukemia. He fought bravely against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a rare and aggressive form of cancer, making medical history with his initial remission in 2012. He continued to embody strength and hope, with the loving support of his family, in his quest for long-term recovery. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lizzie Neal, of Albany, Louisiana, a brother, Gayle Neal of Pumpkin Center, Louisiana, a sister, Iris Neal Bishop of Deer Park, Texas and brothers-in-law, Melvin Booth and Bobby Bishop. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Sullivan Neal, two sons Jeff Neal and Dennis Neal, their wives Sandra Sims Neal and Eileen Weaver Neal respectively, grandsons John Neal, Levi Neal, David "Bear" Borne, granddaughter Natalie Neal, and great-grandson, Tyler Borne. Erlo truly loved life and had a passion for helping others, never too busy to help his family, friends or neighbors that he loved as family. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing and many of his fondest memories were spent sharing this pastime with his sons and grandsons. He was very proud of his only granddaughter, Natalie "Cricket", and enjoyed giving her big hugs and kisses. Erlo retired after a long career as a scaffold builder with the Carpenters Local 1098 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Helping others, was a trademark of Erlo's, he was especially never to busy to help his neighbors on Springdale drive in Denham Springs...he loved the bond that he had with his neighbors. Erlo, was grateful for all the wonderful attention and help with chores that his neighbors returned to him and his wife during his illness. A special thank you to Dr. Bryan Bienvenu and his medical staff at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and many family and friends for their loving care and support, he would always brag on them when someone would ask, "Erlo, how do you feel?" To say Mr. Erlo or Erlo, Paw Paw or Daddy, all titles used by everyone who knew him will be missed is an understatement, but the man we all affectionately know gave us so much to remember him by, that he'll never be forgotten by those whom he was known and loved by. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 19, 2016 to begin at Seale Funeral Home in Livingston, Louisiana from 9:00 AM until services at 12:00 PM with interment following at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Denham Springs immediately afterwards. Additionally, with so many family and friends affected by the recent flooding, the family request that anyone who can attend, please do and casual attire is perfectly acceptable. Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Neal, Levi Neal, David "Bear" Borne, good friend and neighbor Cody Richard, and neighbor and friend Jerry Pitts, and great-grandson Tyler Borne, his nephew Richard Bishop is honorary pallbearer.
