James Paul Schmell
Schmell, James Paul 1/2/1940 - 10/16/2016 Chelsea, Michigan James Paul Schmell, of Chelsea, Michigan, age 76, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was born on January 2, 1940, in Jackson, MI, the son of Paul and Evelyn (Penn) Schmell. He had lived in the area all of his life was a member of the Chelsea Free Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1958 to 1962. He had worked for Chrysler in Dexter and then Sterling Heights for 28 years, retiring in 2001, and before that for the Chelsea Lumber Company (when it was by the railroad tracks) and also the Dana Corporation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing his yard. He also enjoyed spending time on his farm in Crystal, MI, and hunting in Kentucky. On December 22, 1962, he married Patsy M. Marshall in Chelsea and she survives. Also surviving are three children: Renee Schmell of Chelsea, Rachel (Eric) Engelmeyer of Florida, and Kimberly (Ben) Buchanan of Florida; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his siblings: Joyce Campbell of Stockbridge, Jackie Lunn of Jackson, Janell Houser of Jackson, Richard (Sue) Schmell of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Gary (Diane) Gyurkovitz of Kentucky; and his siblings-in-law: Earl D. Marshall of Alabama, Lora B. Marshall of KY, Emogene Push of Grass Lake, Sonny Marshall of Chelsea, Ross Marshall of Ypsilanti, and Roleigh Marshall of Stockbridge. He was preceded by his son Aaron Schmell in 2001, grandson Aaron Buchanan, and siblings-in-law Bearl C. Marshall, Eva Lee Salyer, and Jesse Marshall. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016, at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Pastor Jeff Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on both Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Chelsea Free Methodist Church.
