ONEIDA > > Alojz Grozl, 72, Lenox Avenue, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 after a long illness. Born May 24, 1944, in Cagona, Slovenia, he moved at age 18 to Banja Luka, Bosnia to perform military service. Alojz continued working for the military for five years as an electrician and later for Elektra Banja Luka. After earning a diploma in electrical installation and maintenance in Zagreb, he served as electrical maintenance worker in the auto industry for ten years and in the state brewery for another ten years. In 1975, Alojz, married Zlata Brkic in Banja Luka. Their daughter, Ana, was born in 1977, and their son, Zlatko, was born in 1981. When war came to Yugoslavia in the 1990s, they were forced to leave their home and jobs. After two years each, in Slovenia, Germany, and Croatia, they found it impossible to return home and decided to come to the United States. They settled in Oneida and began employment with the Diemolding Corporation, in Canastota, in 1998. A son, Robert was born in 2000. Health problems forced Alojz to begin retirement, in 2003. Surviving are his wife, Zlata of Oneida, son Zlatko of Hamilton and daughter, Ana Jakobašic with her husband Zoran and children Andreas and Sarah-Emilie of Angelholm, Sweden. He was predeceased by his son, Robert, in 2016 and his sister, Maria, in 1999. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida with the Rev. Deacon James Chappell, officiating.
