PORCHIA, DOROTHY M. Bay City, Michigan Sis. Dorothy M. Porchia, age 68, departed this life on Thursday, October 13, 2016 in the comfort of her home in Monitor Township, with her loving husband Russell R. Porchia, I of forty-three years by her side. She was born in Newellton, Louisiana to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pollard and was the youngest of twelve children. Dorothy confessed her faith at an early age at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Newellton, Louisiana. Even as a child, she exhibited an aptitude for learning and education. For instance, she taught herself to play piano. After graduating from high school, she attended Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and earned her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. From there, she went on to receive a M.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Central Michigan University. Dorothy's educational pursuits led her to teaching in the elementary schools. Throughout her thirty-one years as a teacher, Dorothy's exuberant spirit was endearing to her students. Furthermore, she was a member of the BCEA, MEA, and NEA. Some of the schools she taught at include, Woodside Elementary, East Forest Elementary, Linsday Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Hampton Elementary, McGregor Elementary, Riegal Elementary, Kolb Elementary and Washington Elementary. Dorothy will be remembered for her captivating smile and dedication to her family. Fondly, she leaves behind to cherish her memories a husband Russell R. Porchia, Bay City; a daughter Detra L. Porchia, Bay City; two sons, Russell R. Porchia, II (Marnee Meyer), New York, New York; Andre' A. Porchia, MD (Lauren), Canton, Michigan; her sisters, Fannie P. Weston, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Minerva Pollard, Newellton, Louisiana; a brother, Billy Pollard, Tallulah, Louisiana; including seven grandchildren, Quinna & Brianna, Elijah & Asa, Vallyn, Donald, and Violett; one great granddaughter, Amaris; several nephews and nieces; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Second Baptist Church, 1770 W. Young's Ditch Rd., Bay City, MI. with Reverend Seth R. Doyle, Sr. presiding over the funeral. Dorothy will lie in state at the church Saturday after 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 21st at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel, 256 N. Madison at Tenth Street in Bay City. Due to road construction on Madison Avenue, please use Monroe Street driveway to access funeral chapel main parking lot.
