In memory of
Roscoe Robert Honeycutt
Roscoe Robert Honeycutt was born in Meeker, Oklahoma on August 29, 1924 to James Berry (J.B.) and Elizabeth Honeycutt. He passed away peacefully in Porterville, California on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the age of 92 years. Roscoe's family moved from Oklahoma to the Porterville area when Roscoe was 4, where the family was engaged in farming. While attending school in Porterville, Roscoe began his lifetime journey when he met Wynema Townsend and they remained school sweethearts through the years, marrying shortly after high school graduation. As a family, they began farming and raising their infant son, Gary, until Roscoe was called to active duty during WWII. Roscoe served two years of active duty in the Aleutian Islands for the U. S. Army, and upon his return, they resumed their married life where they continued to farm and raise their son. In 1950, the family was blessed with a daughter, Kaylene. At age 27, Roscoe became the manager of Tule River Cooperative Gins with five cotton gins at three locations and his lifetime involvement in the cotton industry began, with many travels throughout the United States visiting and attending yearly and national industry events. In 1962, the Tule River growers expanded their operation with the addition of a prune dehydrator at the Woodville location, and Roscoe continued to manage both entities until his retirement in 1986. During his working years, Roscoe was involved in many organizations and boards including the Young Farmers, Elks Club, American Legion, California Cotton Ginners, and Tipton Elementary School Board. During retirement years, Roscoe enjoyed involvement with River Island Country Club, Tulare County Trade Club, and several local organizations in the Porterville area. Roscoe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Toni Honeycutt of Fresno; daughter and son-in-law, Kaylene and Ken Cowell of Martinez; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynema Honeycutt, brother Hugh Honeycutt, sister, Vera Carrick, and parents J.B. & Elizabeth Honeycutt. Visitation will be held at Myers Funeral Home in Porterville on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Porterville. The family wishes to thank Regina, Josie, & Rosemary who provided many hours of loving care in the home for Roscoe, and to Dr. Nirupama Vermuri and the staff at the Sierra View Dialysis Center for many years of care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Porterville Historical Museum or donor's favorite charity. To sign the family guest book or send condolences please go to www.myersfuneral.com.
