Navoleine (Ross) Roddy
Navoleine Roddy, 94, of Troup, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 15th, after a brief illness. Services for Mrs. Roddy will be held 3:30 pm Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Troup Church of Christ with Minister Jim Heath officiating. A graveside will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mrs. Roddy worked as an educator for forty-seven years. She taught in the classroom for the majority of her career, but also served as Troup Elementary Principal and later as Curriculum Director. Mrs. Roddy attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned her Bachelors, Masters and Mid-Management Certification. She grew up in Mixon and had her first teaching assignment there. She and her family, moved to Troup in 1960 where she began her long teaching career at Troup ISD. Mrs. Roddy was an active member of the Troup Church of Christ, where she taught a children's Bible class until the age of 86 and helped with the community's Clothes Closet until recent months. Mrs. Roddy helped establish the monthly Senior Game Day at the Troup Municipal Library. She was active in the Troup Women's Civic Organization, Troup Genealogical Society and Troup Friends of the Library. In 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Roddy were honored as Troup's Citizens of the Year and were honored again with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Mrs. Roddy was born in Mixon on June 8, 1922 to William Tell Ross and Susie Musick Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, R.J. Roddy, her daughter, Patsy Fisher, brothers, Bill T. and Frank Ross and sister, Doris Stockton. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Rita Jo and Dwade Reinsch of Wylie, Becky and Dennis Mays of Selma, North Carolina and Alan Fisher, son-in-law of Tyler. She was blessed with six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Cole and sister-in-law Anita Ross, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers that watched over their mother. Your love, compassion and vigilant care enabled her to remain in her home with a high quality of life and we will be forever grateful! Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas or Troup Church of Christ.
