In memory of
Mary Ann Bridges Kilbourne
Mary Ann Bridges Kilbourne 1946-2016 Mary Ann Bridges Kilbourne, 70, died October 14, 2016 in Houston, Texas after a valiant battle with cancer. Mary Ann passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving daughters Jessica Brazelton and Jocelynn Staley. Mary Ann was born to Helen and Jake Bridges on March 12, 1946 in Houston, Texas. She graduated high school from Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans and college from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1968 with a degree in accounting. She obtained her CPA in 1970 and received an award for scoring the highest CPA score in all of Louisiana that year. Mary Ann went on to have a successful accounting career at a number of companies including serving as one of the first female managers at Arthur Andersen. However, the most lasting impact of her life was the love and compassion she showed to all people, and specifically, her family. She selflessly and lovingly took care of her mother, Helen, during the last years of her mother's life. Above all else, she loved her three children and eight grandchildren completely and unconditionally. She treasured her time spent traveling from her home in Fredericksburg, Texas, to visit her grandchildren in California, Hawaii, and Houston. She loved to cook (her specialties were biscuits and fried chicken) and to cheer on her grandchildren at their sporting events and theater productions. In her own words, "I was born to be a grandmother." Survivors include her daughter Jessica and husband Fred Brazelton of Houston, Texas and their children Avery, Bess and Lewis; her daughter Jocelynn and husband Jeff Staley of Menlo Park, California and their children Cole, Wyatt and Reid; her son Robert Kilbourne of Kauai, Hawaii and his children Nova and Olive; her sisters Susan Bridges Linnstaedter, Gayle Bridges Straughn, and Elizabeth Bridges Donahue and her husband David; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to family, she is survived by her friends and former husbands Bruce Edwards and Bucky Kilbourne and her beloved pets. Mary Ann's great love of family, kind spirit and sparkling blue eyes will be remembered by all who knew her. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held on Friday, October 21st at 10:00 am at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, located at 12800 Westheimer Road, followed by a memorial reception from 11:30 – 1:30 at The Forest Club, located at 9950 Memorial Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Friends For Life animal shelter to honor Mary Ann's love of animals.
