Ernest Eino Johnson
JOHNSON ERNEST EINO Age 86 of Brighton, Michigan, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home after a two-year battle with cancer. Ernest was born July 1, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Eino and Mary (Anderson) Johnson. He grew up in Greenland, Michigan and graduated from Mass High School in Mass City, Michigan in 1948. He then began work in tool & die and metal stamping at Wallin Brothers, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan. Ernest served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Alaska. On June 4, 1955, he married Marlene Annette Karttunen in Detroit. This year they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together they had three sons: Michael (Terrie), Brian (Eleanor) and Stephen (Lisa) Johnson. Michael preceded him in death in 2012. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Curtis (Katrina), Ryan (Stacy), Grant, Brandon, Lisa (Kyle), Sarah, Allison and Emma, and one great grand-daughter, Ellie Mae; siblings: Mary Ann Rogers, Elly Mae Arvo, Alice (Norman) Weisinger, Betty (Andrew) Martin, William (Dorothy), Barbara Kemppainen; sister-in-law, Helen Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Eino and Mary, his brother Donald, and his infant sister. Ernest and Marlene purchased WBI in 1966. He enjoyed over 68 years of employment and 50 years of ownership at one company. His hobbies included playing golf and watching all Michigan sports, especially University of Michigan football. One of his great memories to share was his time spent on the 1948 Mass High School basketball team, where in front of a crowd of 15,000, the Mass Rockets won the title Class D State Champs-1948. A time of gathering will be held at Keehn Funeral Home, 706 West Main Street, Brighton, MI. Receiving of friends will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2016 with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Angela Hospice, (Angela Hospice Development Office, 14100 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48154) or any charity of your choice in memory of Ernest E.
