In memory of
Dorothy Denney 1928 ~ 2016 Faced with the United States presidential election just weeks away, Dorothy Arlene Preisendorf Denney, age 88, Murray, Utah, chose to opt out on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Dorothy was born March 9, 1928 in Grand Island, Nebraska to John and Opal (Plummer) Preisendorf at the family home on Vine Street so she could expertly play the role of big sister to John Jr. and Richard (Jean Maupin). She was baptized into the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 8, 1928 where she began a personal relationship with God that she would pursue all her life. Following a courtship built primarily through letter writing, Dorothy was married to Glen Denney on October 12, 1947 at the home of his Aunt Zela in Murray, Utah. Association with Glen's family introduced her to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and she was baptized into the church. Glen and Dorothy were then sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Her greatest goal as a mother was to raise children who were good and honest citizens. The couple had six children who fulfilled that wish. Vicki Edgel, Craig (Sheri) Denney, Roger (Janet) Denney, Richard Denney, Arlene Denney, and Mariann (Randy) Wild, her 15 Grandchildren and 36 Great-Grandchildren are her legacy of integrity and service. Dorothy set that example as a model homemaker and friend. She designed wedding dresses for family and neighbors, cooked and baked for neighbors and strangers, taught daughters and granddaughters a number of sewing and crafting techniques, and always offered a meal to anyone who came to her door. For the last 5 years of her life she hosted a weekly afternoon of games and laughter with good friends who loved and were devoted to the sisterhood they had created. After long-suffering, and endurance through mortality, what a sweet reunion she will celebrate as she returns to her heavenly home to be reunited with her family and friends with whom she has shared so much love. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the professionals at The Wentworth at East Millcreek, Brighton Home Health & Hospice, and many other caretakers who provided sweet care and friendship to our dear mother. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah, with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 A.M. Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com
