George Joseph Gullo
George Joseph Gullo, 73, of Slippery Rock passed away peacefully Friday surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 19, 1942, in Pittsburgh, to the late Samuel Gullo and Josephine Schumaka Gullo. George was Catholic. He graduated from Allegheny High School. George was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War serving in Japan. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years and received a 20-year recognition letter, retiring from the Reserves as an E-6. He worked for Kress Tire in Pittsburgh for more than 15 years as a tire vulcanizer, and then at Lenzner Coach Lines as a driver. George was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed hunting and a love of his beagles. He is survived by his wife, Derryl Lynn Sooy Gullo, whom he married Sept. 26, 1966; one son, George Darrick (Wendy) Gullo of Portersville; two daughters, Danielle Noelle (Paul) Haney of Portersville and Dayna Lynn (Derek) Roskovski of Butler; five grandchildren, Alexis Haney of Portersville, Andrew, Isabella and Sean Roskovski, all of Butler, and Colton Gullo of Portersville; two nieces; and one nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John S. Gullo. GULLO - Friends of George Joseph Gullo, who died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. A blessing service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Harry R. Bielewicz of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Mount Hermon Cemetery in New Castle. Officers and members of American Legion Post 117 of Butler and American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora will conduct military honors at the cemetery following the service.
