FAIRBORN — USMC MGySgt. (Ret.) Ralph E. Black, age 86 of Fairborn, passed away Thursday October 13, 2016 at the Miami Valley Hospital. He was born December 16, 1929 in Revloc, PA, the son of the late Walter and Florence (Schaffer) Black. Ralph served his country in the United States Marine Corps during Korea and Vietnam, retiring at the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant after 23 years of service. He followed as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service, retiring after 20 years of service. Ralph loved his country, his faith, and his family. He was a member of Byron Church, taught electronics at Greene County Career Center, and was always willing to help others. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Wilcox; and a sister, Marion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; a daughter, Cindy (Wayne) Nissen; grandchildren, Emily Helfinstine, Clinton (Marilyn) Helfinstine, Laura (Todd) Maggio; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Helfinstine, Israel Johnson, Paige Helfinstine; brothers, Donald (Alice) Black, Phillip Black; son-in-law, Chuck Wilcox; as well as many extended family and friends; and his beloved dog, Bucky. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 18, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Byron Church, 3230 Trebein Rd., Fairborn, Pastor H. Wesley Barnhill officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until the time of service at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery.
