Marian Garrett Marian Garrett was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 4, 1929 to Albert and Frances Axelrod and died on October 10, 2016 of heart failure in her home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin Garrett whom she was married to for 29 years. The couple were teenage sweethearts at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. Marian is survived by her brother, Herman Axelrod; (Janet) of Boulder, CO; son, Brad Garrett of Bellevue, WA; daughter, Selene Becker (Jack) also of Bellevue; grandchildren Matt Garrett of Seattle, WA and Garrett Becker of Bellevue, WA. Marian graduated from UCLA with a teaching credential, but ultimately pursued a career as a clinical psychologist after completing her Master's Degree at California State University at Northridge, CA. Most of her professional career was spent at Olive View Mental Hospital and Cri-Help in the San Fernando Valley. Marian was passionate about her career as a psychologist and she was well regarded in her field throughout southern California. During her time at Olive View Mental Hospital she was the director of the Outreach Program. At Cri-Help, a drug treatment facility, she was the lead psychologist working to rehabilitate addicts in both group and individual settings. Marian also had a private practice that she maintained until her retirement in 1997. After retiring she volunteered at the American Cancer Society and for Bellevue School District. Marian was an avid bridge player achieving Life Master in 2000. She actively played bridge at the Eastside Bridge Center in Redmond, WA until she was no longer able to travel to the club. She continued to play bridge on line until days before she died. She loved her family very much and cherished her time with her grandsons, Matt and Garrett. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1405 170th Place NE, Bellevue, WA 98008 on December 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
