Barbara Ann Zach Loving wife, mother, and grandmother Barbara Ann Zach, 77, of East Brunswick, N.J., passed away peacefully, at home, on Oct. 13, 2016, after three months of hospice care. She was surrounded by the love of her family and the Grace of God. The visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick. The funeral service will take place Monday, Oct. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville, 172 Main St., Sayreville, N.J. Born on Jan. 13, 1939, to Ethel and Hugh Beattie in South Amboy, N.J., Barbara was sister to Dr. Alfred Beattie and his wife, Ruth, and their sons, Mac and William Beattie and his and wife, Anna. Barbara graduated from Sayreville High School in 1956 and then Newark State College (Kean University), earning a bachelor's degree in early childhood education in 1960 and a master's degree in early childhood education in 1962 with a letter of commendation. Barbara taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at Emma L. Arleth Elementary School in Sayreville, N.J., for six years. She taught for an additional 21 years at South Amboy Elementary School and was named "Teacher of the Year" from 1993 to 1994. She enjoyed gardening, music, crafts, cake decorating, themed summer parties with friends, teddy bears, traveling, watching her grandchildren's sporting events, ballet recitals, and school plays. Barbara taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the East Brunswick Women's Club. She was past matron (1970) for Phila Chapter 216 OES of South River, N.J. She was also a Girl Scout Brownie leader, mother and grandmother to four Eagle Scouts, and a Girl Scout Silver Award recipient. Barbara married Alvin L. Zach Jr. on Sept. 29, 1962. They had three children, Lynda Zach Freda and husband, Paul, of Avenel, N.J., Donna Zach Spendley and husband, Joe, of Cary, N.C., and Robert Zach and wife, Melissa, of Downingtown, Pa. Her grandchildren are Robert Zach Jr., Cameron Zach, Emily Zach, Zach Spendley, and Leah Spendley. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at the Reformed Church Home of Old Bridge, N.J., the RCCA of East Brunswick, N.J., especially Dr. Ronnen, and the nurses and aides of Seasons Hospice Care, especially Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Barbara's name.
