Dr. Stavrula Gotsis
Dr. Stavrula P. Gotsis, M.D., 91. Attended the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School of Health Sciences during the German occupation of Greece in WW2. Graduating with high scholastic honors in 1949, she received U.S. citizenship and residency through a special act of Congress. She obtained her Cook County medical license in 1954 and was the first practicing woman plastic reconstructive surgeon in Chicago. Chief of surgical staff in several Chicago metropolitan area hospitals and focusing on trauma, her professional career lasted well into her 70's. She was the beloved daughter of the late Christos Perutseas and the late Philanthi Perutsea, both of Tseria, Messinias, Greece, daughter-in-law to the late Pericles Gotsis and the late Stavrula Andrews Gotsis of Springfield, MA, sister of the late Angelos Perutseas, J.D. of Athens, Greece, the late Katina Perutsea Stasinopoulos of Athens, Greece, and the late Akis Perutseas, J.D. of Athens, Greece. Her sister, Dr. Athena Perutsea Papadimitriou, of Athens, Greece, survives her. She was the loyal aunt to Panos Stasinopoulos, Christiana Perutsea, Lilian Perutsea, Dr. Basilis Foivos Papadimitriou, and the late Olga Perutsea, all of Athens, Greece. She was also the beloved aunt to Dr. Perry Gotsis, M.D. of Naples, Florida, who served as ring bearer at her wedding in 1959 to her late and much loved husband, Dr. Fabian Gotsis, M.D. with whom she shared her life and medical practice for over 45 years. Dr. Gotsis was a dear mother to the late Philene Gotsis, J.D. of Cleveland Ohio who passed away in April of 2016, and leaves her youngest daughter Lia Gotsis Paschal and son-in-law, Kent Avery Paschal of New York City. Her greatest pride was for her adored grandsons, Philip Kent Paschal and Gregory Kent Paschal of New York City. With warmth of heart she lived her life's motto, "where there is a will there is a way". May she rest in peace. Mass will be held at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox, 5649 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660 at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 - private entombment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 60076.
