Elise Bedenbaugh Martin PROSPERITY - Elise Hawkins Bedenbaugh Martin,96, formerly of Prosperity, died October 15, 2016, in White Oak Manor. Born in Prosperity, July 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George I. And Rilla Epting Hawkins. She was a graduate of O'Neal High School in Prosperity and received a Business Certificate from Newberry College. She retired from Belk of Newberry. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was a former choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Altar Guild, the W.E.L.C.A. and chaired the Worship and Music Committee. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club and Woodmen of the World Chapter 1054. She loved gardening, cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Martin was twice married - first to the late William Woodrow Bedenbaugh and, after his death, she married the late H.C. Martin. She is survived by her sons, G. Roscoe (Peggy) Bedenbaugh and William "Billy" (Libby) Bedenbaugh, both of Newberry, Lewis R. (Nancy) Bedenbaugh and Steve C. (Edith) Bedenbaugh, both of Prosperity; a daughter, Bunny (Dwight) Wessinger of Irmo; a stepdaughter, Brenda M. (George) Pitonyak of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Karman (Wendy) Bedenbaugh of Hickory Tavern, Brad Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Aaron (Kay) Bedenbaugh of Connecticut, Hannon (Deena) Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Laura Bedenbaugh and fiance', Jamie Vannoy, both of Ohio, Maria (Jonathan) Morgan of Greenville, Joanna Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Tyla (Craig) Bowers of Prosperity, and Lisa W. (Evan) Williams of Atlanta, GA; six great-grandchildren, Henry and Ella Bedenbaugh of Connecticut; Labon and Brooks Bowers of Prosperity, Brandon (Amanda) Cromer and Bryton Cromer, both of Hickory Tavern; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy H. Wise of Newberry, and Reba H. (Earl) Weisner of Aiken; and a brother-in-law, John A. (Judy) Bedenbaugh of Prosperity. She was predeceased by brothers, Bittle Hawkins, Woodrow Hawkins, and an infant brother, Curtis Hawkins; sisters, Arlie Frazier, Alda Rae Pugh Amick, and an infant sister, Bertie Lee Hawkins. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Building Fund, P.O.
