Paul Whaley Knoxville, TN Paul Whaley, a resident of Knoxville, died on Saturday, October 15, at Parkwest Hospital. He was born in the Farragut Community on April 10, 1927,and in 1934, he and his family moved back to Sevier County, where he was graduated from Sevier County High School in 1947. He played football in high school and was inducted into the Sevier County High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008. He was graduated from Carson Newman College where he attended on a football scholarship, lettering in football all four years and was named to his All-Conference Team as a senior. After graduation in January 1951, he entered the US Army and served for two years during the Korean Conflict. Soon after he was discharged in 1953, he became an agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company, and in 1960, he became an independent agent with Nationwide Insurance Companies until his retirement in 1989. During the years of his career, he and his family were residents of the Karns Community where he was active in the Community Club, the Lions Club, and as a coach of youth football. He was an avid gardener, sports enthusiast, and devoted husband and father. For many years, he was an active member of Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church; at the time of his death, he was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In his later years he was a resident of the Farragut Community, Windsor Gardens Assisted Living, and the Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Bessie Caughron Whaley; his wife of 62 years, Ellouise Ariail Whaley; his daughter, Donna Henderson; his brothers, Roy, James, Glenn, and Alvin, Jr.; and sister, Loretta Smelcer. He is survived by his children, Anita Bay (Bob), Bill Whaley (Kevin), Cathy Rickman (Joe), John Whaley (Celeste), and David Whaley (Angela). Survivors also include grandchildren, Michael Bay, Nicole Windham (Kip), Justin Whaley (Crystal), Jared Whaley (Melissa), Jennifer Kirkman, Kevin Rickman (Nicole), Will Rickman, Nicholas Henderson, Christopher Henderson (Erica), Meagan Duitsman (Andrew), Andrew Whaley (Rebecca), Evan Whaley, and Luke Whaley; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Sanders and Cleo. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 4:00 pm, in the chapel at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens, 160 Edgemoor Rd., Powell, TN 37849, the Rev. Andrew Whaley officiating. The burial will immediately follow the service, and the family will receive friends at Woodhaven from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
