James P. "J.P." Johnson Evansville,IN James P Johnson transitioned to his heavenly home on October 11, 2016 at Brauns Nursing Home. Born February 20, 1917 in Tiller,Arkansas Mr Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethel, son Lamorris Johnson, and daughter Daretha Bentley Hill. He was a longstanding member of Greater St James Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and former chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee ,Male Chorus, Gospel Chorus and the Senior Choir. He was a 50+year devoted member. He was the retired founder and owner of Johnson and Son Construction Company Inc. serving over 60 years as one of the State of Indiana's largest black owned business working throughout the state of Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. During his career, he was blessed to employ over 10,000 people. Mr Johnson was honored by Gov. Mitch Daniels, being presented with the Hoosiers Award and received the key to The City of Evansville by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. Deacon J.P., as he was lovingly called is survived by Charlie Calvin Johnson (Janoris) Nashville, TN, James Melvin Johnson,(Victoria) of Los Angeles, CA., .Dorothy Johnson, Detroit, MI, Mary Jackson,(Robert, deceased)Los Angeles CA , Min. Anna Michelle Mitchell(Jeffery, deceased) Nashville, TN Alice Turner, Indianapolis, IN , Rev James Michael Johnson Sr.(Rhonda) Evansville, LaTonya Johnson and Jimmy Johnson also of Evansville and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
