Capt. James Leon "Jim" Nichols Sr.
Capt. James "Jim" Leon Nichols, Sr. Collierville, TN Capt. James "Jim" Leon Nichols, Sr., 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 13th, 2016. He is preceded in death by; parents, C.D. and Valera Nichols, parents-in-law, Jack and Shirley Downs, brother, Jacky Nichols, daughter, Stephanie Nichols, two grandchildren, Callie Clay and Austin Earwood and a nephew, Richard Hudson. Jim is survived by; his loving wife of 25 years, Jackie Nichols, children, James Nichols, Jr. (Jamie), Scott Eggleston, Jennifer Earwood (Rodney), Whitney Clay (B.J.), twelve grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail, Malia, Hailey, Brandon, Josh, Jay, Amber, Annelise, Caleb, Savannah, and Carleigh, two sisters, Marie Hudson (Don) of Augusta, GA. and Ann Hudson (Bob) of Bel Air, MD. and a host of other relatives whom he loved very much. He was an active member at Central Church and a 33rd Degree Mason, Past Master, and Member of DeSoto Lodge 299. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, began his law enforcement career in Washington, DC. and retired as Captain from Memphis Police Department. In his retirement, he worked for Kroger Loss Prevention and then volunteered for a number of years as Treasurer of ACRE (Association City Retired Employees) and as Security Consultant at Central Church. He was one of the founders of the Memphis Police Department Explorer program, instrumental in the establishment of Crime Stoppers as well as being a Chaplin for the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police). Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. The family cordially invites friends to share remembrances of Jim on Tuesday, the 18th of October from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Central Church, 2005 Winchester Blvd. in Collierville. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, the 19th of October at two o'clock in the afternoon, also at the church. The Rite of Committal will be on Friday, the 21st of October at ten forty-five in the morning at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene in Memphis. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions to be made in Capt. Nichols' name to either the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (901 E. Street, NW, Suite 100, Washington, DC 20004) or the Memphis Police Association (638 Jefferson Ave. Memphis, TN 38105).
