In memory of
Geraldine McQuagge
Geraldine McQuagge October 8, 2016 Geraldine Neville McQuagge (Gerry), 74, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away at home peacefully with family by her side on October 8th after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease and cancer. Gerry was born in Langdale, AL on November 9, 1941, to the late Sarah and Richard Neville. She graduated from Lanett High School in Lanett, AL in 1960. She attended Auburn University to pursue an elementary education degree and was an active member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. At Auburn she met and fell in love with her beloved, Bob. The couple married on September 15, 1962 in West Point, GA. They relocated to Fort Myers in 1967 and welcomed son, Michael and the following year son, Mark. For almost thirty years, she was actively involved at Covenant Presbyterian Church and New Hope Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, a deacon and wedding director. She was also a member of the Fort Myers chapter of the Junior Welfare League where she enjoyed decorating the Edison Ford Winter Estates at Christmas for many years. She was a true artist at heart. Gerry was well known among church parishioners for her beautiful, handcrafted banners for the church sanctuary. She had a gift for decorating homes and shared that with many friends using their existing things to create a fresh, new look. Channeling her love for her home away from home, Brevard, North Carolina she hand carved birds and log cabins using native materials but her true passion was sewing. Her talent was unmatched when it came to creating custom made clothing for her grandchildren and others. In 2001 she invented what friends and family called the "silkie" for granddaughter, Kate. The "silkie" became hugely popular among friends and eventually to others who wanted the handmade, customized blanket for babies in their lives. Gerry eventually began making the blankets for charitable organizations donating hundreds of blankets over the years. Gerry's true legacy is the love she had for her family. She dedicated her entire life to her husband, sons, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren among countless others who came to her Wales Drive home over the years. She was always there with a hot meal after practice, a laundry room ready to clean dirty uniforms, an ear to listen, a positive word, a place to watch a game with her kind, generous heart she shared with everyone who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert (Bob) McQuagge, sons, Michael McQuagge of Fort Myers and Mark (Suzi) McQuagge of Indian Harbor Beach, FL, daughter in law, Amy McQuagge of Fort Myers and her pride and joy, grandchildren, Kate and Luke McQuagge of Fort Myers. She is preceded in death by her brother, Judge Richard B. Neville Jr. and infant daughter, Sarah Louise McQuagge. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 19th from 6-8pm at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gerry McQuagge to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or New Hope Presbyterian Church, 10051 Plantation Rd., Fort Myers, FL 33966
