In memory of
Isabelle (Mora) Gatrell
Isabelle (Mora) Gatrell, 90, a former resident of Pershing Street, Wilkes-Barre, entered into eternal life early Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, 2016, at Golden Living Center Summit Campus, Wilkes-Barre, following a prolonged illness. She was the wife of the late Mr. James L. Gatrell Sr., who passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015. At the time of his passing, the couple shared 63 years of married life together. Born Jan. 7, 1926, in Pasadena, Calif., she was the daughter to the late Porfirio and Ermalinda Mora, and was educated in the Pasadena schools. It was in California that she met her husband, Jim, and would later relocate to the Wyoming Valley in the latter part of the 1950s. Until retirement, she assisted her husband in the ownership and operation of the family's business, Jim's Flags and Banners. Prior to that, the couple operated the former Canvas Specialties Co. in the Newtown section of Hanover Township for many years. She was a member of the Meade Street Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she previously taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. In addition to her husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Coralann Washburn, in 2003; and more recently by Ms. Ruth Rico on Feb. 19 of this year; and by a brother, Michael Mora. Surviving are her children, Frank Rico-Gatrell, at home; and James L. Gatrell Jr. and his fiancée, Diane Golya, White Haven; grandchildren, Frank III, Christopher and Stephanie Gatrell; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian, San Diego, Calif.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Gatrell will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Wilkes-Barre Heights location of John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 281 E. Northampton St., followed by services at 10:30 a.m. in Meade Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Chester F. Dudick Jr., pastor, will serve as officiant. Interment with prayers of committal will follow next to her beloved husband in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1250 S. Main St., Hanover Township. Relatives and friends may join the Gatrell family for visitation and remembrances from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of floral tributes, the family would be honored if those considering a memorial contribution kindly give to her beloved church, Meade Street Baptist Church, 50 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. To send Isabelle's children online words of comfort, support and friendship at this time, please visit our family's website at .
