In memory of
October 27, 1921 - October 12, 2016 Howard Caldwell, 94, passed away on the 12th of October, 2016 at his home in Solana Beach. His memorial service and a celebration of life reception will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at Faith Community Church in Carlsbad at 11:00 a.m. followed by a burial service at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Caldwell was born on the 27th of October, 1921 in Alabama to Millard and Buford Caldwell. He grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, briefly attending USC before joining the Merchant Marines during WWII. He married Bertha Rice in 1945. They raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. He and his second wife, Ethel Shaw, were devoted to each other and their church. He soon became the church photographer and enjoyed attending his weekly bible study group. If Howard didn't have a camera around his neck, he didn't feel right. He was a rosarian who loved playing tennis, traveling the world and spending time with his family. Howard was a lifelong USC football fan, avid reader and one of the funniest, most personable men around. To know him was to love him and he made it a point to get to know as many people as he could. Howard leaves to cherish his loving memory, his son and three daughter-in-laws, son-in-law, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Howard's name in honor of his three children who have passed away from cancer.
