In memory of
Robert Walter "Bob" Donahue
Waterford - Robert "Bob" Walter Donahue, 94, died peacefully at his home in Waterford on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. Bob was born in New London, on March 29, 1922, the son of Cornelius and Nellie (Cavanaugh) Donahue. He was the loving husband of 59 years to the late Stella (Kalinowski) Donahue. Bob attended Bulkeley School in New London and served combat duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an advertising manager at The Day and retired in 1987 after 43 years of service. He was well known and well-liked by co-workers and everyone he met along the way. Bob was kind, charismatic and generous with a wonderful sense of humor. His smile lit up a room. Mr. Donahue was a life member of VFW Post 189, and a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Waterford. He was a great sportsman and expert fly fisherman. He was still fly fishing at 90. As an avid reader, Bob would have several books open every week. He was particularly interested in military history, Native American culture, art, philosophy, and literature. But most of all, he loved his family and treasured every minute of lunches, dinners, celebrations and casting from the beach. He is survived by his three sons, daughter-in-law and niece: Brian and Patty Donahue of Stow, Mass., Shaun Donahue of Waterford, Robert Donahue of Waterford, and Eleanor Suplee of New London. Mr. Donahue was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor (Donahue) Murphy; and his brother, Neil Donahue, both of New London. His family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Church, 170 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford. Interment with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
