In memory of
Robert Mauldin
Robert Pickens Mauldin November 9, 1944 - October 6, 2016 Robert was born in Greenville, South Carolina and grew up in Pickens, South Carolina.  At age twelve, his father was stationed overseas in Germany and France with the United States Air Force, where they lived for three years.  After returning statewide, the family was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, in Vacaville, California.  Robert, also known as Bob, was an all-star football and baseball player at Vacaville High School, where he graduated in 1963.  He attended Sacramento State University and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, but then was drafted by Uncle Sam.  Bob served four years in the Army as an officer and spent 1968 in Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for Bravery.  Discharged as a Captain, he returned to Sacramento State University and started working for Southern Pacific Railroad.  An injury forced his retirement from the railroad in 1983. Bob spent many family vacations in Mexico and loved spending time at his cabin in Lake Tahoe. His favorite weekend of the year was "Opening Day"; an annual guys camping trip with his closest friends and family. His true love, however, was golf.  He lived and breathed golf.  He made many golf trips to Mexico, Nevada, and all over California.  He was also an active Board Member at Creekside Golf Course for many years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Mason Mauldin, and his youngest son, Derek Mauldin. He is survived by his wife, Debbi, his son Ryan (Laurie) of Modesto, and his daughter Kelly Ness (Brian) of Hesperia.  He was "Boompa" to his beloved grandchildren – Ashley, Alexis, and Andrew Mauldin and Morgan and Kendall Ness.  He is also survived by his brother Tom (Cat) Mauldin of Oregon, sister Kitty (Jeff) Herrick of Modesto, brother-in-law Lance (Judy) Anderson of Turlock, brother-in-law Dan (Terri) Anderson of Oregon, as well as his favorite Uncle Ted Shehan of Pickens, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Bogey.  In honor of Bob's love of golf, there will be a sponsored game at River Oaks Golf Club at 3441 Golf Links Road in Ceres on Saturday, October 22, with a tee time at 11:30am.  No sign up is needed, come out and hit them straight for Bob!  A "Celebration of Life" luncheon will follow at 1:30pm, all are invited, including non-golfers.  Memorial contributions in Bob's name can be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at 3 International Drive Suite 200, Rye Brooke, NY 10573 or to the Alexander Cohen Hospice House at 2201 Euclid Avenue, Hughson, CA 95326.
