Florence Joseph, 83 A long time resident of University Place and DuPont, Washington died Friday due to complications from a stroke. Born in Iowa, Louisiana on July 11 of 1933, Florence the wife of career military officer Frank Joseph traveled the world developing a love of exploring new and exotic places. Finally settling in the South Tacoma area she enjoyed a variety of activities such as book clubs, bible study, political activism, exercise classes and volunteering. Her husband Frank passed away in 2005 followed by her daughter Dianne the following year. An active member of Delta Sigma Theta Florence attained a BA from Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Pacific Lutheran University. Florence the eldest of 5 siblings is survived by her sisters Ruby Pierce of Sacramento, CA. Carrie (Penny) Penagraph of Everett, WA, her brothers Harvey (Sonny) and Horace (Shanq) Gradney of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
