SAMMARTINO, Anna (Sebastiana) Known as Ann by family and friends, passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on the evening of October 13, 2016 at the age of 103. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Sammartino, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. Ann was born on September 13, 1913 in the West End of Boston (now North Station area.) Ann, along with her 3 brothers Matthew, Philip and Sammy, moved to Revere as child and attended public schools, graduating from Revere High School. In 1925, Ann's parents, Philip and Concettina began making candy in the basement of their Revere home. Ann's family moved to Belmont in the 30's and started Phillips Sweets. They continued to make candy and chocolates and sell them in their shop with Ann working alongside them. In 1952, Ann's husband Joseph and her brothers opened Phillips Candy House in Dorchester and Ann continued to be a part of the family business. She always spoke amiably about the business and her experiences with it. Ann and Joe lived in Scituate and wintered in Naples for 20 years. After her husband passed away, she continued to live on "her ocean" until the day she died. Anna was the devoted mother of Mary Ann Nagle and her husband Patrick of Cohasset and Joseph A. Jr. and his wife Karen of Scituate. Cherished grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces,nephews and cousins. Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, SCITUATE on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St, Scituate at 10 AM. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 17 from 4-8 PM.
