Nikolai, Hildegard Hildegard Johanna Nikolai (nee Stiglmaier) died peacefully on October 13, 2016 in Marshfield, WI at the age of 84. Hilda is survived by her husband Dr. Thomas Nikolai; her sister Hermine Stiglmaier, Cleveland, OH; her children Thomas Nikolai (Kathleen Nikolai), Douglas Nikolai (Katherine Nikolai), Mary Jo Nikolai (Mike Huber), Michael Nikolai (Emily Nikolai); and her grandchildren: Jack, Matthew, Madeline, Brodie, Rylie, Brynlie, Preslie, Johanna, Sam, Vincent, and Jay. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Stiglmaier, her sister Laura Koblenzer and her son Timothy Nikolai. Hilda was born on July 5, 1932 in Cleveland, OH to John and Eva Stiglmaeir. She attended St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland and first worked as a nurse in a polio ward. She received a scholarship to Georgetown University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She continued working as a nurse in the recovery room at the Cleveland Clinic where she met her future husband, Dr. Thomas Nikolai. After they were married, they moved to Marshfield, WI. They were happily married for 54 years. Hilda was a devout Catholic and was active at St. John, the Baptist Church, where she led the Eucharist Ministers program. She volunteered as a home hospice nurse, and helped start the program that became St. Joseph Hospital Hospice program. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and PEO. Hilda had a passion for reading, a passion she passed on to all her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming and gardening. She loved visiting her grandchildren and perfected the art of the care package. Hilda was full of life, always smiling and laughing. She spent her life serving others, and was a good friend to many. She will be missed by family, friends and all who knew her. Visitation is Monday, October 17, 2016 at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 E. Veterans Parkway, Marshfield from 4:00 until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday at the church starting at 10:00 am until the time of the service. The funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 am on Tuesday October 18, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 201 S. Blodgett Street, Marshfield, followed by a lunch at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Marshfield, WI.
