Albert "Babe" Pagh
Albert "Babe" Pagh passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. Al was born in Dover, Oregon, in 1927 to Mark J. and Carrie E. Pagh.  He lived in Coos County, Oregon, until 1969 when he moved to Fairbanks with his wife and his only son, Robert D. Pagh Sr., and his family to build and operate 4 Star Lumber. His heritage was sawmills, logging and truck driving which he learned from his father. He renewed his CDL the last time at age 87. Three generations of his family worked with him until his health failed. He served on the Citizens' Advisory Committee for the Tanana Valley State Forest Association and participated in the Interior Wood Cutters Association. He wrote guest opinions and represented Interior Alaska in Juneau and Washington, D.C. legislative sessions on timber issues. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He had a good relationship with his caregiver, Roberta Life-Moore, and hospice workers during his last nine months. He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers George, Ivan, Lester, James and Harold; and most recently his only sister, Marge; nephew Eugene; nieces Linda and Terri; great-niece Cathy; great-nephews Gary and Doug; and grandson Charles Smith. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Maud Lee (Thomas) Pagh; daughter Sheryl Johnson (Vern), son Robert D. Pagh Sr. (Rose), daughter Pat Moss (Loyd), eight grandsons, two granddaughters, multiple great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Jubilee Worship Center, 541 Third St., across from the Chowder House and AK Buffet. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to their favorite charity: St. Jude Children's Hospital at Stjude.org or by mail to 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
