In memory of
EILEEN DOLORES SULLIVAN MARTIN
MARTIN, EILEEN DOLORES SULLIVAN, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on October 12, 2016 after a brief illness. Eileen was born on July 15, 1924 in Scarsdale, NY. She was the oldest daughter of George Dewey Sullivan and Eileen Hernon Sullivan, and sister of Kathleen Foster and Marie Therese Wilson. As a young adult, Eileen worked in her father's jewelry store on Park Avenue in New York City, where she designed jewelry which her father then made. She worked with her father until the fall of 1945, wherein she met her future husband, George Martin. After a brief courtship, the couple married and later moved from Scarsdale, NY to Key Biscayne, FL in 1951. There, Eileen and George (deceased) raised their eight children, George (Linda), William (Sandy), Kevin (Nancy), Jim (Victoria), John (deceased), and her three daughters, Eileen (Jose) Ortega, Kathy (Bill) Heffernan and Sue (Jim) Oppenheimer. Eileen is survived by her 7 children, 17 grandchildren (Michael, Susan, Nicole, Christine, Kelly, Jeff, Heather, Eileen, Katie, Justin, Jonathan, Courtney, Ashley, Dani, Sarah, Coleen and Aubrey) and 11 great-grandchildren. One of the longest living residents on Key Biscayne, Eileen loved raising her family on the island, commiserating with all the other young mothers with the mosquitos, lack of air conditioning and the lone telephone being at the local drug store. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that had the pleasure to know her. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:30am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Key Biscayne, FL. Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon, followed by interment at Woodlawn Park North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in honor of her son, John, the family suggests donations be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton, MA. 02458.
