George D. Sawyer
George Drury Sawyer, 85, a long time resident of Framingham for 65 years, 19 years in East Dennis on Cape Cod, and most recently Middletown, CT, passed away on October 11, 2016. He was the son of the late Ralph H. & Elizabeth (Nichols) Sawyer. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Cross) Sawyer for 59 years. Mr. Sawyer graduated from Framingham High School in 1949, Franklin Technical Institute and earned a Bachelors degree in History from Boston University in 1958. He was a Veteran serving in the Korean War in the Army. He was a banker starting in Framingham with Farmers & Mechanics, then with Framingham Trust and retiring from Bank of America. During his years on Cape Cod he continued to actively participate as a member of Kiwanis for a total of more than 50 years. He was a Constable for the Town of Dennis and was a volunteer at the Senior Center for several years driving Senior Citizens to medical appointments. George was a good neighbor and friend to many and especially revered as a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Family meant everything to him; he will be missed by all. He is survived by his childidren, Elizabeth Kauczka, & her husband John of West Hartford, CT., and Edward & his wife Christine of Barre, VT., 5 granddaughters, Christine, Rachel, and Mary Kauczka, and Caitlin and Courtney Sawyer, his sister, Betty Jo Lenard Roberts of Shreveport, LA, his sister-in-law, Margaret of Kennebunk, ME and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Ralph Henry Sawyer and Joseph Nichols Sawyer. Visitation will be held in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., FRAMINGHAM on Monday morning, Oct. 17th from 9 | 10:45 am. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11 oclock. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery.
