Virginia Montanez Gurrola
Virginia Montanez Gurrola Santa Paula, CA Virginia Montanez-Gurrola, Passed away on October 9, 2016 at Mary Health in Newbury Park, CA. She was born on October 23, 1929 at Santa Paula Hospital. Her parents were, Mateo Marquez from Guadalajara, Mexico and Juanita Marquez from Jaen, Spain. Virginia was the middle child, joining her older sister Frances and preceding her brother David. During Virginia's childhood she enjoyed going to her grandfather's ranch, and working at the family owned business Marquez Food Products Bakery. Virginia met the love of her life, Joe Montanez at Santa Paula High School. They were high school sweethearts and dated for a few years prior to their marriage in 1950. Joe joined the US Air Force and after a brief stay in Anchorage, Alaska he was transferred to Dayton, OH and Virginia joined him. After leaving the Air Force, they moved back to Santa Paula where Joe became a police officer and they were blessed with their first child Steven Montanez. Their family soon expanded with the arrival of their daughter Denise Montanez and Joseph Montanez. The family moved to Santa Barbara in 1958 and in 1961 had their youngest son Danny Montanez. Virginia enjoyed working at the family business with her husband Joe at Fiesta Furniture. She also loved bowling, shopping, golfing, and they loved their trips to Mexico and Spain. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family and cooking during the holidays. Virginia was involved with and had a passion for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Ventura. Joe Montanez passed away 1976 and Virginia remarried in 1978 to David Gurrola. She gained three step children Tim, Nancy and Keith Gurrola. To follow were many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her sons and daughter, Steve Montanez, Denise Clements and husband Dan Clements, son Joe Montanez and wife Cindy and son Danny Montanez. Her grandchildren include Lindsay Clements, Aaron Clements and Christopher Montanez, all of which gave her much love and great joy in her life. We will always remember Virginia's brilliant green eyes. When she smiled her presence could light up a room. She was a kind, considerate and caring person. She was a consistent source of strength for those close to her. She was generous with her time and resources and was always ready to listen and offer thoughtful advice. All of the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, safely home in heaven at last.
