In memory of
Andreas Felix PIRKER
PIRKER, Andreas Felix January 6, 1931 - August 7, 2016 Those knowing Andreas knew him to be a man with a kind and gentle disposition, so easy to like. He was born in Villach, Austria to Andreas and Theresia Pirker just prior to the World War II years in Europe. When he was 10 years old his father was lost in the war leaving Theresia to raise five children on her own. Andreas spoke often of the difficulties and challenges she faced and the sacrifices she made for her children. He spoke about her always with admiration and love. Andreas was active in bicycling events in Austria. He was also an accomplished ski-jumper. Trained as an office machine mechanic, he was proud of his abilities in that trade. In 1951 he immigrated to Canada eventually ending up in Vancouver, B.C. which became home for the next few years. In time the rest of his immediate family joined him there. Andreas met his (future) wife, Virginia, in 1965 in San Francisco. After marrying in 1969 they lived in B.C. and Hilo, Hawaii, finally settling in Sonoma Valley in 1975 where Andreas worked in construction. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 47 years; his son, Houman Pirdavari; daughters, Rachel, Amber (Elismar), and Chelsea (Shaun); and seven grandchildren, Isabella, Julian, Adrian, Colin, Asher, Xiomar and Arabella. Surviving siblings are: Trudy Rauter and Magdalena Canderan of Canada and Erika (Wolfgang) Kleczek of California. He also had nine nieces and nephews. Andreas was predeceased by his brother, Erich; mother, Theresia; and brothers-in-law, Fred Rauter and Italo Canderan. Baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1972, Andreas served with the Sonoma congregation for 41 years and was always happy to help others learn about our creator's purpose for mankind and the earth. Many thanks to all those who showed love and concern for Andreas during his illness. Also much appreciated was the support provided by the Alzheimer's Assn. and Vintage House in Sonoma whose help was invaluable.
