October 9, 2016 Choco Gonzalez Meza passed away on October 9, 2016 at the age of 64. Born in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, her family immigrated to Uvalde and Eagle Pass, Texas. During her life-long journey as an American citizen dedicated to securing voting rights and equal representation for disenfranchised minorities, Choco served as National Research Director, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project; Executive Director, YWCA and Partnership for Hope; HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations, Senior Vice President, San Antonio Housing Authority; President, American Sunrise; campaign manager including San Antonio lead for Hillary Clinton; member of Democratic National Committee, State Democratic Executive Committee, Chair, Bexar County Democratic Party, US Presidential Scholars Commission, Bexar County Housing Authority. Choco is survived by Daniel Meza, husband of 44 years, son Danny Meza (fiancé Julie Gi Kim), daughter Ivalis (Manuel) Gonzalez, granddaughter Emma Maria; brothers Victor Gonzalez (Grace), Robert Gonzalez (Ana), Elva Benavidez (Roberto), Alfonso Gonzalez (Norma), 21 nieces/nephews and grand nieces/nephews.
