Ruth Estalene Jernigan Lindsay
Ruth Estalene Jernigan Lindsay, of Suttontown, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Sampson Regional Medical Center. Estalene was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Cumberland County to the late Lewis William and Myrtie Francis Jernigan. She married her high school sweetheart, James Earl Lindsay of Suttontown, where they raised a family. She joined Goshen United Methodist Church in 1950 and served in the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and Member of the Women's Fellowship. In 1998, she was recognized for her service in the church as the Woman of the Year. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband James Earl Lindsay, infant son, son Bernard Earl Lindsay, daughter Anita Kay Lindsay Williams, second husband William Prentice Sutton, and loyal friend, Mack Daughtry. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Meta Jernigan Starling, Ludie Jernigan Britt, Doris Jernigan Andrews, Virginia Jernigan Royal and brothers, Johnnie Mayo Jernigan, Audie Jernigan, Willie Jernigan, Maylon Jernigan, Hubert Jernigan, and Lewis Paul Jernigan. Estalene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Denise and Al Britt of Suttontown (Faison), her son-in-law and wife Dwight and Debbie Williams of Vann's Crossroads (Clinton), grandchildren Meredith Britt, Lindsay Britt Roberts and husband Aaron, Derek Williams and wife Jenny, and Grant Williams and wife Hannah, her sister Christine Jernigan Coble of Titusville, Florida, and brothers Ralph Jernigan and Charles Jernigan of Clinton. A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Lindsay will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Goshen United Methodist Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Leanne Calhoun and the Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring administration and staff at DePaul Rolling Ridge in Newton Grove, Dr. John Smith and staff, and Dr. Subodh Pal and the Sampson Regional Medical Center staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goshen United Methodist Church and sent to the attention of Shelton Thornton at 793 Massey Road, Newton Grove, NC 28366.
