Cora Ruth Hunt
Cora Ruth Hunt April 24, 1925 - October 6, 2016 Cora Hunt passed away peacefully at Sterling Inn on October 6, 2016 at 7:30am with family present. She is survived by her children Mary Deacon (James), Thomas Hunt, John Hunt (Miko), Ricker Hunt and her niece Donna Butterfield (Robert) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Bill Ricker in 1964, her mother Geneva Howell in 1984, her husband Edwin W. (Ed) Hunt in 1995, her son Robin in 2015 and her grandson Lance Deacon in 2016. Cora was born at her grandparents' farm in Ord, Nebraska to Wilson (Bill) Ricker and Geneva (Mason) Ricker. A few months after birth, the family moved back to Dubois, Wyoming, where they resided at the Wyoming Tie and Timber Company in the mountains outside Dubois. She spent her youngest years at the "Tie" camp where her father was a logger and mother was a cook. Later, she lived on a ranch near Dubois. In 1938, at the age of 13, she moved in with relatives in Montebello, California. Cora graduated from Montebello High School in June of 1941 at the age of 16. She started attending Montebello Junior College in September 1941 but did not complete her education as World War II started. During the war she left college and worked at many jobs in the Los Angeles area. After the war she met Edwin W. (Ed) Hunt and, in 1947, Ed and Cora married in Lakewood, CA. They lived in Lake Arrowhead, California for a time and moved to Pueblo, CO. In 1949, they lived in Lamar, CO where Ed was a Telegrapher for the railroad. In January 1950, after the birth of their daughter, they moved to Hacienda Heights, CA, from 1950 until 1962, where her four sons were born, the last in 1959. In 1962, they moved to Walnut, CA where Cora worked as a Mail Carrier, School Secretary, school Bus Driver, and Company Secretary. She was a member of the Walnut Methodist Church. Upon the retirement of her husband, in 1980, they moved to Phelan, CA where Cora was a charter member of the Phelan Seniors and a member of High Desert Baptist Church in Phelan. It is there where Cora Accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. In late 2014, Cora moved to The Sterling Inn assisted living facility in Victorville, CA. Cora was liked by most everyone she met. Her smile and wry sense of humor was appreciated by her friends. She had an avid love of botany, sports and, in her youth, she rode horses throughout Northwest Wyoming, having started riding at the age of 3. She will be missed by both family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at: High Baptist Church, 10484 Johnson Rd., Phelan, CA 92371, on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:30pm.
