William Travis Merriwether
William "Travis" Merriwether 1929-2016 William Travis Merriwether was received peacefully into God's Kingdom on October 11, 2016. Born February 17, 1929, near Crockett, Texas, Travis was the youngest of 5 children born to William (Will) and Luella May Merriwether. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, great-nephew, Edward Heath Merriwether, nephew, Edward Dewane Merriwether, and niece, Valondia Kay Sessions. Travis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Jean Sager Merriwether, and numerous loving nieces and nephews, all the way down to great-greats. Travis worked as an electrician early in his career, and retired from Southwestern Bell in 1987. Travis proudly served as a volunteer at the Astrodome assisting in first aid, at the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Eye Glass Bank, and at Southwest Memorial Hospital where he volunteered over 7,900 hours up until 2013. Travis never met a stranger, and never said no to a friend in need. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas. Visitation is at 12:30 PM, Service at 1:00 PM, Burial at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
