Mrs. Marie Lavonne (Crafton) Bowman
Mrs. Marie Lavonne Crafton Bowman, 96 Mrs. Marie Lavonne Crafton Bowman, 96, entered this life on March 2, 1920 in Jefferson County, Ind. She was the daughter of the late Hosea Corbin and Lillie Huttsell Crafton. Marie and her family had resided in Carthage, Ind. after her birth and then moved back to Jefferson County where Marie attended Saluda High School. On July 29, 1936, at the age of 16, Marie was united in marriage to Carl Emery Bowman in Jefferson County. This union was blessed with six daughters and two sons. Marie and Carl were married for 36 years until his death on August 20, 1979. Marie was a devoted mother, homemaker and farm wife. In the time that she wasn't being a farm wife she was employed for the Joyce Shoe Factory, the Charlestown Ammunition Plant and for the Southwestern School system in the elementary cafeteria. Marie never lost her passion for gardening and taking care of her flowers. She had an art for crocheting, quilting and sewing. Marie crocheted baby caps and donated them to the newborns at the King's Daughters' Hospital. Many memories were made with her friends while traveling all over the United States and Canada on bus trips. She was a foundation member of the New Prospect Baptist Church where she had played the piano and the organ. She was a member of the WMS at New Prospect Baptist Church and a member of the Saluda Homemakers Club. Marie died at the age of 96, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 8:35 p.m. at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Marie will be missed by her loving daughters, Phyllis Moore of Anderson, Ind., Rosie (Don) Amick of Babson Park, Fla., Jo Ann (Phillip) Vest of Bedford, Ky., Linda (Gayle) Elles of Hanover, Ind., Jeanette Andrew of Vevay, Ind., Susie (David) Lyons of Hanover, Ind.; her daughters-in-law, Carol Bowman of Hanover, and Barbara Bowman of Bedford; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Hosea Corbin Crafton; her mother, Lillie Huttsell Crafton; her husband of 36 years, Carl Emery Bowman who died August 20, 1979; her sons, Ronald Eugene Bowman died December 30, 2015 and Kenneth Allen Bowman died July 4, 2016; her brothers, Everett Watkins and Dale Brinker; her sister, Corine Glascock; her sons-in-law, John Andrew and Nathan Moore; her grandchildren, Billy Joe Arbuckle, David Arbuckle and Gary Elles; her great-grandchildren, Zach Arbuckle and Jason Arbuckle. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, by Brother Dan Corbin at the New Prospect Baptist Church, 7007 South Majors Road in Hanover. Interment followed in the New Prospect Cemetery. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Ind. was entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Prospect Cemetery.
