George R. Jacob
George R. "Jake" "Babe" Jacob, 76, of Irwin, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at the William Penn Care Center in Jeannette. He was born Aug. 7, 1940, in McKeesport, a son of the late George and Julia (Lovas) Jacob. He was the loving husband of Joyce (Byerly) Jacob. Jake honorably served our country in the Navy. Following his military service, he went on to work for U.S. Steel Irvin Works, in Dravosburg. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and he always looked forward to his camping trips to the Moraine Camplands to spend time with his family and camp buddies. He was an avid fisherman, having traveled to the Great Lakes and Canada in search of his "biggest catch". Jake's dream of owning a motorcycle became a reality a few years ago when he became a proud owner of his Harley-Davidson. He enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports and was also a Penn State fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Randall (Linda) Jacob, of North Huntingdon, Diana (Mark) Long, of Penn Township, and Lori (Donny) Elias, of Jeannette; grandchildren, Heather Elias, Chelsea Long, Rebecca Long, Michael Elias, Alina Jacob and Carlin Jacob; sister, Dolores (William) Halas, of North Huntingdon; and one great-grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Varga. Family and friends will be received from 3 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY in the funeral chapel. Pastor Rich Phipps will officiate. Inurnment with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the whole staff at Medi Home Hospice, especially his nurse, Sara, and all the staff at William Penn Care Center for the loving and compassionate care given to Jake. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Medi Home Hospice, 201 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 300, Building One, Monroeville, PA 15235. Condolences may be shared at .
