Carl W. Sofley December 3, 1927 - October 10, 2016 Cary Carl W. Sofley, 88, of Cary, NC passed away on October 10, 2016. Carl was born on December 3, 1927 to the late Henry Hayes and Ethel Allen Sofley. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Allen and his sister, Elizabeth Henderson. He grew up in Yadkin County where his family ran a dairy farm. After graduating from North Carolina State College, he served in the Korean War. He then worked for the Federal Department of Agriculture. After retiring, he worked for the NC State Department of Agriculture. Carl was an active member of White Plains United Methodist Church where he served in many positions including Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the Staff Parish, and Chairperson of Religion and Race. He was also an Adult Sunday School teacher. The church and his family were always the focus of his life. He had a tender heart for the less fortunate which was shown in his works with White Christmas, Meals on Wheels, and soup kitchens. He was an active Democrat and was involved with sports, golf, gardening (especially azaleas and roses), and enjoyed fishing. Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Millicent P. Sofley; sons Dr. C. Wilson Sofley, Jr. (Fran), Henry (Lisa), Allen, daughter Marcia, grandsons Matthew and Brian, and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at White Plains United Methodist Church, followed by a reception.
